Bath time is an important part of your baby’s schedule.Your little one (and you) will reap many benefits from that daily soak.
Don’t rush through just to get clean and get out. Bath time is a task that requires your undivided attention, helping you reconnect and have fun with your baby.
Studies have proven that baths promote healthy development and enhance motor skills. It’s important to give your baby the opportunity to soak up bath time because it stimulates your baby’s senses – sight, touch, sound and smell.
Baths can also comfort your baby, relaxing him or her for a better night’s sleep – and that reason alone is enough to look forward to a little rub-a-dub-dub! Here are some other reasons why you should cherish bath time:
Language development. Whether you sing a song, recite the ABCs, or count to ten, your baby is absorbing every word. Keep chatting away, even if it isn’t reciprocated yet, as it stimulates memory and language development.
Self-awareness. Bath time is the perfect opportunity to teach your baby all about body parts. Talk about what you are washing. If your baby is old enough, let them assist in removing articles of clothing and in the cleaning process.
Cause and effect. If your baby hits the surface of the water, water splashes. If she or he drops a toy, it sinks or floats. These simple actions teach your baby about cause and effect through play.
Positive touch. Cuddles and a loving, gentle touch stimulate growth and overall development. Consider giving your baby a massage with lotion after every bath for a pleasurable and calming experience for both you and your baby.
